Holidays

Dear Coolio-friends,

Though i've tried to find some spare time the last 2 days i couldn't make it to post ... i'm in full preparation to my yearly summer holidays (3 weeks). With this last short note i would like to say goodbye to all of you

Probably, when i've time and can find a computer in the second part of my holidays, i'll try to update from the Swiss Alps (first part of my holidays = Venice in Italy) in about 2 weeks, but i can't promise you this for sure. I made an agreement with my wife and kids to be fully internet-less for 3 weeks.

See ya then or otherwise i'll be back (hopefully in full force) at the 16th of August. Meanwhile my co-bloggers will try to keep you entertained (many thx to Flip, Erik, Lawrence, Naomi and Matth for being so helpfull for the last couple of months - i'm really happy to have such a loyal team around me over here).

Help Needed!

The problem.
The commentsystem of Movable Type can't handle the current amount of traffic. With a total of 55.000+ visitors a day on both blogs, we have to look for alternatives. Upgrading to Movable Type 3.0, with a better commentsystem, isn't possible. Just take a look at the licensecost of it, remember the complains about being too commercial and you know MT 3.0 is out of reach.

The solution?
In the future we'll probably migrate to a complete new publishing system. At short notice we only want to setup the comments different by using select and insert SQL-queries. But we don't have enough knowledge about PHP/SQL to do this. You can't know everything ;-) So if anyone can help us with this or has some excellent tips, please contact Coolio asap.

Coolio Gallerizer

Just a small posting to update you on a new service at Coolios Babelog: Coolios Gallerizer.

It's a service for displaying a range of images on one page, like car01.jpg to car27.jpg. Mostly used to show images of babes in an open directory, but also useful to show any other content. How are things evolving in the search for a new hoster ?

Yesterday i received a promising proposal of somebody who wanted to host Coolio's. So, if everything will work out in a good way (i still need a confirmation), Coolio's might be saved. First part of the mission will be solved then.

But, to be completely safe ... don't hesitate to contact me if you have another offer. Until i'm not officialy saved i have to look to further options. So, don't stop to contact me if you think you can help me with Coolio's or Coolio's Babelog. The babelog is a more complicated issue but to be fully informed you'd better check it there at the babelog.

Another thing:

In the past i found many sites who copied parts of Coolio's posts. In some way we are all copying each others work but what makes every weblog (who work in the same style as this blog) unique is the fact everybody has it's own good sources to make a unique post. By looking at this i can live with people who copy our work without giving credits. I know, for myself, that i don't always give enough credits but i know how other webloggers work. Sometimes it's impossible to give credits for every link you put in a post.

Sometimes, as i found out today, my pants drop off onto the ground when i see people like this one. Look and compare for yourself. This dude is sick, copy/paste is an easy way of stealing someone's work. Take for instance the 'Back to basic's' post i've posted here at the 12th of april (Monday) and compare with his post. He thinks he's clever, isn't he ? It seemed that he put that post online 2 days earlier (the 10th of April) making it look that i stole all the bunch of links from his site. Do you think we would be that stupid to copy/paste whole posts from other weblogs ? He even copies the title of our posts.

Wonder he'll copy this post as well ! Stupid f*ck !

This will sound not that friendly but while searching to a new webhoster, giving me alot of stress lately, i hope you all forgive that i let go myself for one time.

Important and urgent message to somebody out there.

This post will be posted on both Coolio's and Coolio's Babelog.

This time it's a really sad story i have to tell. It's about 1 year now, since June 2003, i've been hosted (for free) on these servers thanks to the help of Flaxe Webhosting. It was a win-win relationship, as they told and/or believed. Maybe they thought both weblogs would have been interesting to sign in similar customers who would like to be hosted on their servers. So far, so good ... at least i thought. Until today ...

This afternoon i received a very sad call ... Flaxe Webhosting quits hosting my both weblogs starting from the first of May. Though i know i don't have any reason to complain about the delivered services the last 12 months (everything for free) but i also have to be honest with all of you ... it means i can get the hell outta here and look for a new hosting.

What this means ? I don't know but what i do know is that it's very close to reality that i'll have to quit bloggin if nothing happens in the 2 upcoming weeks. Too sad Flaxe Webhosting is pushing me to take this decision and spent my spare time doing other things in the near future. On the contrary i have to be realistic too ... Flaxe Webhosting is a commercial webhoster. A webhoster is a commercial company and commercial companies should earn money to stay alive ... no further comments needed about that one, i suppose ?

So, it's up to you ... maybe someone out there is willing to help me. If you do, please contact me as soon as possible.

Hope you understand my concern. It will be up to someone who cares about Coolio's or Coolio's Babelog. I don't want to search for funds to keep these sites online. So, if you have contacts ... call them and let me know !
It will be this or otherwise you'll be invited to visit the funeral of these both, hopefully, cool weblogs. Coolio's and Coolio's Babelog makes approx. 60.000 visitors happy, every day ... it would be a sad thing both for me and you as a visitor to see this leave, isn't it ?

So my last call for help, here are some stats about both logs :

Coolios Weblog traffic stats : 2,8 Gb/daily = 85 Gb/month
Coolios Babelog traffic stats : 15,8 Gb/daily = 480 Gb/month

Extra news

After a phonecall with Flaxe they offered me a possibility to prolong my hosting at their servers with one month. We discussed a specific target we would like to achieve to prolonge my stay for at least until the end of May ... along with Flaxe we can offer you this opportunity. Servers are located Amsterdam on a fast backbone, transfer from your host to Flaxe without any costs, ...
Though there might be some problems for foreign payments i would strongly suggest to take a look at the features. If you plan to transfer or whatever be sure to put my weblog coordinates in the corresponding box (Advised by:
(website or customer)).
Everything will depend on the amount of new customers who will contact Flaxe. When it will be dissapointing (low) the same consequences will remain and we'll go down at the end of this month.

Guestloggers

See what we can get out of this ...

As you can see Coolio's is running greatly nowadays ... i'm doin' my part of the job and i do get much help of my guestloggers. Some while ago we had a good team with approx. 5 bloggers. I have to admit logging with 5 gave me some more spare time to do some other things from time to time. Due to success of my babelog and the consequences in the workload i lost Erik as a poster. He now spends most of his time in webmastering both my blogs. Some other loggers like Johnny, Cookie, ... seem to have lost the appetite of loggin' ... for me personally this is a real disaster. Luckily i can count on Lawrence and Matth (who also has a very busy life) most of the time.

What i would like to ask is the following. I urgently need some guest- or fulltime bloggers who are able to post some things over here on a regular basis. I know i've asked this a lot of times but it's really important ... so please raise your voice and mail ! We have some good guidelines on how you can blog over here, it's really simple but some basic knowledge of html is needed (but not that important)

Let us work together on Coolio's. Don't let it depend on a few people. Let's make it a community. The same thing counts for the babelog. Interested to blog over there too (?), let me know asap !

Like i told you all in my previous post the next upcoming days you won't see much things posted here cause i'm goin' to some family parties to have some fun and booze ;)

New Search

A few days ...

Small not from myself ... the upcoming days and probably longer i will not be able to update with the same frequency that you're used to see here from me due some other things i'll have to organise first. Nothing special, just some works in my house.

But, don't bother too much ... Matth, Erik, Lawrence, Johnny2000 (and BBC from time to time too) are still there and i'm sure they'll be there to entertain you all as much as they can. Whenever i find a spare hour to update i'll try to be there ;)

Switching servers II

An update...

As you probably noticed our site was not accesible during the past days. We exceeded our bandwidth much faster than expected.

Due to the high traffic of both Coolio's and Coolio's Babes the webmaster of the Flabber-domain, Gert, will move both our sites to a new server. This may result in some downtime. If Coolio's will be down (just in case) ... don't panic, we'll be back soon (DNS things can act very strange sometimes).

Meanwhile you can read our new postings below. This posting will remain on top until everything is back normal.

The last couple of days i received some fanmail on one side and on the other side a few people mailed me they would like to help with co- and/or guestblogging. The result : i made 4 new accounts today ... so new people are coming here to express their doggy-ness. This will give me some (more) time to be with my family and do some things which i wasn't able to do recently because Coolio's (and my babelog) was taking too much of my precious time.

Give these people some support, they really deserve it ... they survived Coolio's from dying.

New design

As you all know Andreas designed the new look of Coolio's Weblog and Coolio's Babelog. Yesterday Coolio received Photoshop7 and around 4 o'clock this morning, after "some" Belgium beers, he thought he could make a better design for our weblogs! Here's his hard work for Coolio's Weblog and Coolio's Babelog...

The influence of Belgium beers takes a while, some nice comments for Coolio can speed up that process. In the meantime don't worry about the current designs ;-)

The real Coolio-fans will have noticed the linkbanner, in the past, shown below. It was used to link Coolio's from other websites/logs.

I need 2 new ones for my 2 websites meaning this one :p and my babelog.

Today I've setup a categorylisting for all the postings at Coolio's. Every posting will be added to one or more categories. At the end of every posting you will see the category of that posting. Click on it at all the postings in that category will be loaded. You can also use the links in the category-section in the column on the right.

Some categories have not much postings yet, but we're blogging like a maniac so that problem will be fixed very soon ;-)

Talking about 'the real thing' ...

Ever heard of the Blowbib ? Or the The Accomodator.

So far a short post from my part ... maybe more later, if the site stays online. There seem to have been problems the last 2 days and maybe the next days more problems will occur but we are busy to transfer the site (along with Flabber) to a new server with more powerfull backbone. Expect a more fast and reliable Coolio's real soon. Hope you'll stay loyal to uss. We are really working on a solution, please stay with us ;)

Problems

As you might have noticed we experienced some annoying problems the last 2 days. But no worries, in the next upcoming days we'll be transferring this babelog and my other weblog Coolio's Babes to a new server including some highspeed backbones. At the moment i don't know how long this will take and if there might be a 'downtime' reflecting on this. But, the main thing is that we'll be back and faster than ever.

At least we hope. Fingers crossed and be patient. If we stay in business today, because most of the time in the afternoon (CET) the sites drop death when the American start to surf (the servers are located in the States), i'll try to do another update. So have an eye on the sites later on.

Don't forget to read the posts of Wastrel and Nimb. Great stuff !

Yes, yes ... believe it or not, Coolio('s) is getting famous.

I've been asked by SpacerUK, an online magazine, for an interview. Aahhh, being famous feels soooo good.

I know it's not that original anymore but i'm thinking about some more Photoshop contests in the future. It all depends on the reactions on the above 2 contests + the interest in doing such things over here at Coolio's. Maybe we should discuss this in the comments ?

Yesterday i started a little experiment with introducing the 'Coolio's Fan Gallery', until now i only received 1 real fan, out of Finland, besides a few contributions of the own crew including myself, Erik and some younger fans ;)

Mr Move-X also came on with a great idea to start another competition for Coolio-fans : the 'Coolio's Photoshop'-project.

Let's explain everything with a little example :

Let's make photoshopping a cool thing to do along with Coolio's ... do your thing so we could include everything in the Coolio's Photoshop Gallery.

The Coolio Fan Gallery

Let's celibrate our new start here at Flabber with a 'let's know eachother better'.

We added a 'The Coolio Fan Gallery' at the left side frame of the site inside the 'nifty stuff'-section.

What the real fans of Coolio's should do is take a picture of themselves, use your webcam or digital camera (if you're luck you have one) or simply scan a pic, and mail it to Coolio (check left side for mail). Try to add a funny or nice message on a paper why you adore Coolio's that much. Also send me some additional information, e.g. where you live, how long you're a fan, etc. Very surprised what you'll send me.

As an example i added, to explain how it should look like, myself and my 2 kids in the The Coolio Fan Gallery.

More nifty stuff is coming up, we are preparing a Coolio's Fan Store with T-shirts, caps, ...

Also check the post below about creating a T-shirt through Pixeltees. We're also waiting for someone who's creative to help us with this. Feel free to send us some examples.
